About

ABOUT THE ACP

The Association of Conservative Peers is the House of Lords equivalent to the Commons 1922 committee. It meets every Wednesday at 2pm when the House is sitting and is open to all Conservatives Peers and the Chief Whip attends to give details of the forthcoming legislation.

All meetings are held under Chatham House rules.  Parliamentary business is discussed and any issues of concern can be raised in confidence by members. The Chairman, two Vice-chairman and an executive of 9 are elected at the annual general meeting. The Chairman, Lord Forsyth of Drumlean serves ex officio on the Conservative Party Board and his responsibilities in addition to representing back bench colleagues include liaising with the Leader of the Party, other opposition Groups and the House authorities.

Project Phoenix Report

Following the disastrous General Election result Lord Forsyth with the enthusiastic support of the ACP membership established Project Phoenix. The clue to its purpose is in the name. A number of experienced colleagues were appointed to produce an evidence based report on the way forward for the Conservative Party. All Conservative Peers were invited to give evidence to this group concerned solely with organisational issues and not with policy matters. Lord Norton of Louth was appointed as Convenor of the group and has drafted the report based on more than 80 written submissions received as well as oral evidence.
